Acupressure

Acupressure is a type of bodywork that combines Swedish massage techniques with pressing specific points on the body with the fingers, knuckles, and palms (and sometimes the elbows) to relieve pain, reduce stress, and promote general good health.

Originating in India, Acupressure probably evolved from the natural human instinct to hold or rub a place on the body that hurts.  Although its roots can be traced to India, Acupressure as practised today owes much to the Chinese to whom it was introduced around 5,000 years ago by Buddhist monks.

Probably the most important contribution made by the Chinese was the discovery of the ‘acupoints’ or specific points on the body that have particular therapeutic benefits.  These points are used extensively in Acupressure massage.

Acupressure can offer relief from many chronic and acute conditions such as:

  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Neck & shoulder pain
  • Back pain
  • Muscular tensions and aches
  • Menstrual difficulties
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Digestive problems

Because an Acupressure massage is also a deeply relaxing experience, it is wonderful for calming the mind and body and reducing stress levels.
